Case Study: YouTube Star Caspar Lee

Caspar Lee is a South African-born YouTuber, vlogger, actor, and social media personality. His YouTube channel has more than 7.1 million subscribers. Casper Lee will be familiar to anyone with significant YouTube experience. Millions of people follow him. Caspar has been active for more than half a decade, uploading videos since 2011. He is regarded as one of the earliest stars of YouTube. Additionally, he wrote the scripts for the videos and followed this up with several acting gigs. He is very popular on other social media sites such as Twitter (4.45 million followers), and Instagram (4 million followers).

Comedy is one of his major trademarks through his videos, which are both hilarious and original and he often collaborated with other YouTube stars. His huge social media following has led to him being invited to talk shows and other TV programs, including an appearance on Showtime’s Web Therapy with ‘FRIENDS’ star Lisa Kudrow.

Meteoric rise to stardom

In 2011, Caspar began uploading videos onto YouTube when he was just a creative teenager. Prior to that, he participated in a variety of acting and drama events in high school. With its fresh content and charismatic personality, Caspar’s channel, originally called ‘Dicasp’ and later renamed ‘Caspar’, the channel became wildly popular. Over 500 million people have viewed Caspar’s videos. Caspar has a second channel, titled ‘morecaspar’. As you may expect, this channel has fewer subscribers, but with over 106 million views, it’s been visited more times than most YouTubers can dream of.

The primary goal of Caspar’s YouTube channel was not to earn a living. By the end of 2012, he had moved to London and was serious about making a career out of making videos. After moving, he met other YouTube stars. Joe Sugg, famous for his ‘Pointless Blogs’, became his roommate. As a result, Caspar became completely engrossed in making a career as a YouTuber.

Although Caspar’s videos are brilliant in their own right, he’s also popular because he’s associated with other stars. His career has been filled with collaborations with several YouTube stars including Shane Dawson, Grace Helbig, Cara Delevingne, Tyler Oakley, Jack and Finn Harries, Zoe Sugg, Marcus Butler, Troye Sivan, and KSI, among others. All these celebrities have been featured on Caspar’s videos, which has increased his popularity as well.

As a result of his popularity in his field, Caspar has also attracted the attention of several film producers. He has appeared in a couple of movies. The role of Garlic is played by him in ‘Spud 3: Learning to Fly’. Since the film is a comedy, he was right at home in it. During the SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water film, Caspar played the role of a seagull. In this film, the popular Hollywood franchise was adapted to British audiences. Joe Sugg, another YouTuber, also appeared in the video. In the same year, they made a BBC Worldwide documentary about a 1000 mile journey where they filmed the entire journey. Aside from these impressive performances on the big screen, Caspar also hosted a talk show for StyleHaul named “The Crew.”

Since 2019 Caspar has stopped posting new videos and has been concentrating on other entrepreneurial areas.
